Tempesta [2012] at The Lancasters

Let’s hear it for Helaine

London Evening Standard Sebastian Shakespeare

A new landmark for London. At a time when so many execrable high rises are being built across town, how heartening to celebrate an erection which is perfectly in keeping with its surroundings.
This Wednesday, acclaimed sculptor Helaine Blumenfeld unveiled her white marble sculpture Tempesta at the Lancaster Gates overlooking Hyde Park. It is visually stunning and in perfect harmony with the restored Grade II-listed building’s façade. From one angle Tempesta resembles a female figure in repose, from another it is all abstract turbulence. Much better than Henry Moore, said my wife. Why isn’t Helaine Blumenfeld better known?
